INITIAL SITUATION The heritage-listed Sternbrücke in Hamburg-Altona is set to be replaced by a larger bridge. The Initiative Sternbrückecriticizes the project as a „monster bridge“ and advocates for alternative renovation approaches. The bridge is also a cultural hotspot, home to kiosks, snack bars, restaurants, clubs, and bars.
CONCEPT IDEA The fictional Office for Extraordinary Working Conditions invites the public to engage in a performative exploration of the bridge. It highlights the often „invisible“ labor of local business owners and raises the question: What does it mean to work in a place where others come to enjoy themselves?
IMPLEMENTATION For one afternoon, the office is staffed with forms, archives, and information. Three team members provide a platform for dialogue and guide visitors to different locations around the bridge, where QR codes grant access to interviews with local business owners.
